Weather

No, we are not getting any snow here but were are getting much  cooler (colder) weather.  Today truly feel like January.  Yesterday we got some much needed rain (we ended 2010 12+ inches below average).  I don't mind the cold weather except for the fact that our house stays pretty cool.  I really wish we had a fireplace that worked.  It would make staying warm so much easier!  With that being said, I am going to get off my duff and do some housework (to warm myself up cause friends. . . .I am cold!).  I hope that all of you who are getting the snow are enjoying it.  Wouldn't mind some here!  Hope everyone is having a good day.

Tough Day

Today we went to the funeral of a family friend.  My parents have been friends with this family since I was very young.  She fought a long battle with that very ugly disease we call cancer.  The funeral was very nice.  I tried not to cry to hard but my Mom's funeral is still so fresh in my mind.  I had finally mostly stopped crying as the service ended but they began playing the tape that my family taped for my Granddad's funeral.  When you listen to it, you can hear my Mom's beautiful voice loud and clear.  And then I just couldn't hold back the tears.  And that always leads to the crying headache that just won't go away.  Thankfully mine didn't last too long.  Now I am glad that it is bedtime because I am very tired.  Emotional days do that to me.

Life on a Thursday in January

What a title huh?  This morning I got up early because I am subbing in a 7th grade history class (5 am is early to me what about you?).  I get to school (the one my Dad teaches at) and got to my classroom to find out that we are watching The Alamo with Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton, Jason Patric and a whole slew of other people.  I was excited about that since I hadn't watched it before but I had to start watching about a 1/3 of the way through.  Pretty good movie. . . .but after lunch I get to watch the same part over 4 times.  Exciting. . .I know you envy me!  HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!  Anyway I tripped over to The Pioneer Woman's blog and found the most exciting news that totally made my day.  She has written a children's book called Charlie the Ranch Dog.  Her dog Charlie is the star and I can't wait until it comes out in April.  I may pre-order (something I never do)!  Can't wait to read it.  I LOVE children's books (one of the reasons I wanted to teach elementary kids although now I am leaning towards junior high kids. . . .but they can still read kids books right?).  Maybe one of these days I will write a book.  Would you buy it?

2010 Q & A

I have seen this on a couple of other blogs so I thought I would do one too (yes, I know that I am a follower but only sometimes!  Some of the questions were really hard to answer.

1-  What did you do in 2010 that you have never done before?  I honestly can't think of an anwer for this one

2-  Did anyone close to you give birth?  Some friends from church did, a girl for one family and a boy for the other family

3-  Did anyone close to you die?  Yes, my beautiful Mom.

4-  What date from 2010 will remain etched in your memory and why?  March 1, 2010, the day my Mom passed away.

5-  What was your biggest acheivement this year?  Learned how to rely on myself more because I didn't have my Mom to help me.

6-  Did you suffer any illness or injury?  I had either phlebitus or cellulitus in my foot (awful)

7-  What was the best thing you bought? No idea - we haven't made any major purchases and I can't pinpoint any of the small ones.

8-  Where did most of your money go?  to pay bills

9-  What song will always remind you of 2010?

10-  What do you wish you'd done more of?  been able to spend more time with my Mom

11-  What do you wish you'd done less of?  worried about what others thought about things

12-  What was your favorite TV program?  The Big Bang Theory

13-  What's the best book you read this year? I read so many that I can't remember one specific one!

14-  What was your favorite movie this year?  RED with Bruce Willis

15-  What did you do on your birthday? How old were you?  celebrated with family - 40

16-  Did you travel anywhere this year?  the beginning of the year consisted of traveling to MD Anderson also Shreveport and Colorado

17-  What national/world event stirred you the most?  The Chilean miners being rescued and the earthquakes in Haiti

18-  What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?  for my Mom to have been able to overcome leukemia and the stemcell transplant and for myself to become a Mommy

19-  What merited celebration?  There wasn't much celebration in my family this year

20-  Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010?  God is in control and what happens is in his plan, not mine no matter how much it hurts.  I already knew that but was boldly reminded

New Year's Resolutions

This year I am going to try something yet again.  Last year I was doing goals by the month but life got in the way and that fell by the wayside.  This year I am going to focus more on God and follow that path he chooses for me.  There are a few things that I am hoping will be a part of his plan and a couple of those are to fall even more in love with my husband, be a good Christian example, get a job, be more prayerful and become a Mom.  I just have to let go of my will and my timetable and give it over to God.

New Years Day

Got to bed way too late last night!  Today we are celebrating my in-law's birthdays.  They have birthdays in December so it can be hard getting them fit into the schedule.  We went to eat at Cotton Patch (ate way too much), went home and ate cake, watched Sherlock Holmes and then headed home.  We didn't eat black eyed peas (very gross to me) or cabbage (love cabbage but didn't think about it).  My dad hung out with my sister and they ate peas and cabbage! 
Oh my goodness. . .I don't know about you but we ate with wild (and I mean WILD) abandon this holiday season!  I am really going to have to buckle down now and get on some kind of exercise routine and put much less food in my mouth!!  I should follow my Dad's lead, he joined a gym and has done very good so far.  I am very proud of him!
Gotta finish church work so I can go to bed!  Church comes early in the morning.

Wrapping Up 2010

Well, it is the end of 2010 and I can't say that I am sad to see it go.  This year has been a very trying year for my family.  I hope that the coming year is better for all of us.  We enjoyed being together for Christmas but there was that something that was missing, well it was someone who was missing.  I hope that she is happy with how things went. 


We are spending New Year's Eve at my in-laws house with Mr. Giggles Mom, Dad, sister and b-i-l.  We will eat too much, stay up too late and play a game or two.  We are under a burn ban so we won't be doing any fireworks this year.  Plus it is a little too cool for me to want to spend time outside.


I will do a little run down of what happened in 2010.
January:  my sister and I continued traveling to MD Anderson to stay with my Mom as she continued her stay there.  Mom wasn't released like we thought she was going to be but she seemed to be getting better.

February:  spent more time at MDA and Mom was up and down health wise.  At the end of the month she was released to an acute care hospital in our hometown.  We were excited and had lots of hope.  Oh, and we got snow.

March:  Our hopes were dashed when Mom passed away.  Mr. G and I celebrated our 13th anniversary, my nephew celebrated his 12th birthday and my niece celebrated her 9th birthday.  All celebrated without my Mom.

April:  life continues but without travel.  We celebrated Mom's 59th birthday.

May:  we celebrated my sister's birthday and the end of school.  My Dad decides that he will continue to teach another year.

June:  we celebrated my Dad's 65th birthday, my parents 41st anniversary, my in-laws anniversary, Mr. Giggles 42nd birthday and took a trip to Colorado with my Dad and little sis.

July:  continued on with the hot weather.  My sister's and I went to see the musical WICKED.  It was awesome.  My Mom would have loved it!  One year since Mom's diagnosis.

August:  still hot and everyone got ready to head back to school.  We also celebrated my little sister's birthday.

September:  school is back in full swing.  This month is Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness Month.

October:  celebrated my 40th birthday.  One year since Mom entered MD Anderson.

November:  celebrated Thanksgiving at my sister's house.  Mom was missed a lot.

December:  celebrated Christmas without Mom but enjoyed being with the rest of the family.

Well, that is 2010 in a nutshell. . . .a very small nut shell!
