Tuesday

Not much to say tonight. I didn't get much accomplished today, I was too tired and too sore from yesterday! I go shopping at Sam's and WalMart with my little sis this afternoon. We had a good time.
One thing I forgot to mention yesterday was that one of the young heifers we kept got a bucket stuck on her head! It was funny to see her swinging her head around to get it off. I wish I had taken my camera with me but I figured that if I did, it would get broken so you will have to use your imagination!! Thankfully we didn't have too much of a moo-allujah chorus last night from the mammas.
Well, it was 102 degrees today and still no rain. Our low temp overnight as 80. We are at 34 days of 100+ temps. I am so ready for winter!
That is all for tonight. I am hoping for sleep tonight. I am really, really tired.
One more thing: Mom update. . . Mom had a good day. She went shopping at Marshall's and ate some Panda Express and then took a nap!! She has an appointment tomorrow with her doctor (that would be the 6 ft 7 in doctor from Germany!) and we hope to get a "schedule" so we will know what will be happening next.

Monday

What a day I have had! It started at 7:00 am as we went to work gathering the cows (please note that we do this on foot, not horseback or 4-wheeler. we don't even have any horses anymore!). Although my grandmothers cows didn't want to cooperate, the 4 calves that we needed miraculously ended up in the pasture where we needed them. We then went and gathered my mom's cows which includes Stormy, the baby we raised on a bottle. Stormy was a brat and I kept having to push her out of my way! We got them out of the gate and started across the oil pad except for our newest little guy who couldn't seem to find the gate and his momma wouldn't call him. My aunt and I kept the cows going towards the barn and Mr. I went back for the baby. Well, the baby's mom finally realized that she was missing something and took off back to the other pasture. Mr I. got those two back where they needed to be. Well, I was really worried about making sure that the young heifers that we were supposed to keep (which includes Stormy but I can pick her out, no problem) so we had all the big cows out and we were looking at the babies when I realized that last year we had tags but in their ears. . . .no worries!! So we got everyone separated and loaded into the trailer. Had four low tires so we went and put air in them and headed out to the auction barn. This was by about 10:20, we were making great time. Dropped off the cows, went to Mickey D's for a coke and ended up eating lunch. Big Mac. . . .yummmm! Headed to Coop to buy some mineral tubs and salt blocks and then headed home to put up the trailer and pick up my truck to head home.
I made it to my house by 12:09 and the appliance repair man (who gave me an I'll be there between 12 and 2 time frame) got there at 12:20. Took him a whole 20 minutes and $73.00 later, my washing machine is fixed!!
My aunt calls me to hurry out and open the gate because she had the escapee cows that we needed to look at and see about taking to auction close by. Well, I got the gate open, headed out to help her and the cows headed out to the back 40. OK, it is so hot but lets see if we can get them back. Well. . . .long story short, the cows are still in the pasture and I will see if I can trick them into the pastures I need them in sometime this week!! We finished up again, headed to grandmom's house for WATER. We had splashed water on ourselves at our lake to try to cool off (we laughed about having our own wet t-shirt contest!) so we smelled like lake water, cows and sweat. Not a good combo!! I then headed home at about 2:30 and finally got to shower all of the stink and dirt (lots and lots of dirt and stink!). I finally headed out again about 4:45 and only made it as far as grandmom's house. I ate dinner with them, cleaned up the kitchen, went to my parents house and put up their cats, came home and ironed a shirt for my honey, started a load of laundry (after I finally got the stupid bleach bottle open) and changed the sheets on the bed. Oh, and wrote a blog entry. Folks, I did this all on just two hours of sleep!! I am ready to hit the sack so until later. Goodnight!

I don't think I am going to be able to move tomorrow!!!

Weekend Wrap Up

Well, last night was the main event of my class reunion. I enjoyed getting to see old friends that I don't see very often or not at all. The event was held at the Hilton and was very nice. Good food and good friends. When my mom had her 20 year reunion she said that it was interesting how the cliques just weren't anymore. Well, it didn't appear to be that way at mine. The most popular people hung out with the other most popular people. Didn't really bother me though. I got to talk to most of the people I wanted to and that is good enough for me! We only made it to the main event because we were visiting my parents (they aren't going to be able to come home between treatments this time). The schedule for the weekend was: Friday night: Family bbq at C&J BBQ and then on to Murphy's Bar. We would have gone to the bbq joint but not the bar because we don't drink and don't hang out in bars. Saturday was a carnival for the families (didn't go for several reasons, the main one being that we don't have children) and then a tour of the high school (didn't go to this because I was meeting my aunt so we could talk about cattle and the auction which we will be taking cows to tomorrow) so we just made it to the main event. I still can't believe that it has been 20 years since I graduated. I do not feel that old (ok, well right now I do because I am not sleeping well).

Visited with Mom and Dad on Friday. Mom was up when we got there but only for a short time because she got sick and went to bed. She slept about 2.5 hours and then woke up, me and the Mr. went and got her a whopper, jr which started her on the road to keeping her food down. My sister's husband and kids were in town so we visited with them a little, they went to bed and we left at around 10:40 pm and got home around 12:45 am. We were wiped out Saturday so we left the reunion at 9:45 or so (plus I had church work to do).

Friday I also got the dreaded call. . . .the call about how my interview went and if I was going to be employed instead of unemployed. Well, I did not get the job because I am not ESL certified and I don't have teaching experience (outside of student teaching and subbing). Well, I am not going to comment further about what I think about that so, I am back to looking.

Today I planned to get a nap but I didn't get much of one so I am going to wrap this up and hit the sack. I hope that you all had a great week and that you have a great week this week. Tomorrow I am going to play cowgirl with my aunt! Actually it will be work. Maybe I will take my camera and take some pics of our babies! Til tomorrow!

Hi Mrs. H.'s mom!

PS: Sorry this is not in chronological orger but I wanted to keep the better part of the weekend to be first!

Good News/Not Good News

The good news is that mom was released from MD Anderson today after having her 2nd spinal tap with chemo. Mom, my dad and my sister are staying in a hotel close to the hospital because she has appointments on Wednesday, Friday and Monday. The not so good news is that she may not get to come home between treatments this time. I know that they are where they need to be for Mom but I miss them so much. Yes, I am spoiled because I live in the same town and get to see them whenever I want. I am trying not to call a lot during the day so I don't bother them. Today I waited until my Dad called which was hard because I talk to my Mom on the phone at least once sometimes several times a day. So, if this sounds like a feel sorry for Giggles post, it just might be. I have been feeling down more today than I have since this all started. Sunday one of my best friends went to visit my Mom with her niece and I wanted to share with you the conversation they had about their visit. I wanted to tell you both a funny from my niece.I had told her about the hospital before she came with me since i didn't know what we would see when we visited and I wanted to make sure she still wanted to come with me. Anyway,... After we left, Georgia turned to me and said, "you know aunt amy, she looked pretty good!"I thought that said a lot. I told her I agreed, she looked tired, but good! I thought that was a very sweet thing for her to say.
So with that, I am going to close this post because I don't really want to be a whiny britches.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

57 Days and Counting. . . .

and we have beaten the NO RAIN record. We were lucky enough to get a little bit yesterday but it was not enough by any means. On a brighter note, I don't think that we reached 100 today which is a blessing. Well, after I started my post, we were under a tornado warning, severe thunderstorm warning, hail and a flash flood warning so what did we get in our little corner of the world???? Well, the tornado sightings weren't too far from our house but I didn't ever see or hear anything, we have gotten some rain but not as much as those living in town and I just laughed about the flash flood warning because we won't have to worry about that anytime soon! While this was going on, my husband was in town and my sister was heading toward the storm after being with my parents and I was home. . . . . alone. Well, my honey made it home safe (even though he was near one of the tornado sightings), my sister made it home (but she has no electricity) and well, I am fine. I am currently watching the 10:00 news and they are showing damage from around the area. Today's high was only 98 degrees.
My Mom was supposed to be released from the hospital today but due to the fact that the tough chemo has made her very ill, she may be released tomorrow. To keep up with her, please go read her journal (she isn't writing, my sister and I are). For those of you who have been praying for her, thank you so much. Last week she had a spinal tap chemo treatment and they tested some of the spinal fluid and it had no cancer cells in it. For that we are very thankful. She is one round of chemo down. . . .7 more to go. She will have another spinal tap tomorrow and another bone marrow test next week.
This weekend is my 20th high school reunion. I still cannot believe that I have been out of school for that long. I am excited about seeing old friends that I haven't seen in a long time. The hubby isn't as excited but then he really isn't into these kinds of activities but he will go because I want to go.
Well, that is all for tonight. I am tired and I am ready to crawl into bed and read the book I am currently hooked on!!

Thankful

Today I am thankful for:
*the doctors who found my Mom's leukemia and those who are treating her
*the wonderful nurses and others who are taking care of Mom
*the 3/10 of an inch of rain we got this evening (even though the concrete in town got more than we did and the fact that there was hail)
*the beautiful rainbow we saw after the rain
*my husband
*my parents and sisters
*my family & friends who have been so supportive since my Mom got sick
*my God who gave his son for my sins
*that I am able to begin a new week!

Hope you all have a great week.

53 is the number today

and that means we are now 53 days with no rain. This morning it rained to the north, east and south of us. We are sooo dry. I have already moved one herd of cows to the hay patch below our house and in a few minutes I am going to go open the gate to the other hay patch to let the other herd into it. On a brighter note, it is only 77 degrees right now and it is usually well into the 90's by this time. I will try to get some pics to show you how brown everything is around here. We still have some chances for rain for a couple of days so I will be keeping my fingers crossed, doing some rain dances and maybe getting another vehicle washed! I already washed my car this week so I may do the hubby's truck or our suburban just to see if it will help!

On a more serious note, Mom started chemo at midnight Wednesday night. So far, so good. This morning she had a PICC put in and will be having a spinal tap with chemo done later today. If you want to keep up with her journey, please go to www.ourmomsjourney.blogspot.com. Please keep her in your prayers.

I hope each of you has an awesome day!

Something To Think About

Our devotional this evening at church was given by a friend of ours who has two of the cutest little boys. He devo was about how your reaction to something effects those around you. It talks about the series of events caused by one little bug who sneezed. The book is called Because A Little Bug Went Ka-Choo! The devo was very good but he kind of stepped all over my toes! I sometimes forget that how I react could really make a difference in someone's life. I am going to try to pay a little more attention to how I handle things that are thrown my way!

We got some good news today on Mom. Hope on over to her blog and see what we found out!

Have a great day!

Who Would Have Guessed. . . .

that getting a teaching job would be so difficult. I was supposed to have an interview today or tomorrow but it has been changed to next week. How irritating. I am beginning to wonder if what I thought was my calling was really my calling. We shall see.

It is so stinking hot around here. We are 49 days without rain. . everything is nice and brown around here. This afternoon at 4:45 it was 100 degrees on my front porch, in the shade, and had been in the shade for several hours. It is currently 9:48 pm and the temp is still 89 degree outside.

Well, that is all for tonight. My husband is giving me a hard time about blogging. He doesn't understand why I feel like I have to tell everyone everything. . . .which I don't but oh well.

Good night everyone!

Prayer Request

My very healthy, hard working mom was diagnosed with acute luekemia today. We will be heading to MD Anderson on Friday. Please pray for her, my dad and the three of us, our "adopted sister", two sons-in-law, and the 2 grandkids for a complete cure for mom and strength and whatever else we need during this time. This was a very shocking diagnosis and we are still completely in shock about it. Please pray, we really need it at this time.

Home Sweet Home

Well, we got back to HOT home sweet home from our vacation in HOT Oklahoma with side trips into Arkansas. We had a good time but it is always best to get home (even thought we take our small home on wheels with us!). I will tell you about the vacation later and should have some pics. Right now I need to ask for prayers for my mom. She was put in the hospital this afternoon with one possibly two blood clots. I will tell you more as I get more info.

God Bless The USA
by Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.

I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.

That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

And I’m proud to be and American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

Antiques

I really enjoy antique shopping. Not that I can afford much but I love to look! I have a couple of items that I am looking for specifically. . . . .I want an old cake plate, preferably one that is a stand cake plate and the other is a pretty platter and I always love looking at the glassware. I found a platter yesterday that closely matches a plate I have but I thought that it was a little over priced so I left with out it. I also like to look at the books. I found one that I really wanted but it cost $45.00 and there was no way I could justify getting it. It was written by Laura Ingalls Wilder and was called On The Way Home. I hope to one day collect all of her books (I think I have a few but they are packed away at my mom's house) but not at that price! Another thing I like to look at/for is Pyrex bowls. I have been looking for the bowl set that is primary colors and there are 4 or 5 bowls (depending on the set you find) but they are pretty pricey and right now I don't have room for them. Last year on a trip with my parents, my honey found me a set with a different pattern and I love them. They are the Snowflake Blue pattern and are in really good shape. My dream kitchen would be a vintage 50's kitchen. I love the appliances and colors from that era. When I find some pics of what I want my kitchen to look like, I will post some! Well, I feel like I am rambling (could be because it is really late or early depending on how you look at it!)

How can it be?

How can it be July already? When I was younger, the 4th was such a special time for my family. As much of my family (and those who are like family) as possible would come to my grandparents lake and so much fun would be had! There would be water skiing, fishing, boat riding, sunburns, awesome food, homemade ice cream and lots of love. We always look forward to this. I can't remember when the last time was that we did this. We don't get to use our lake house because no one has time to keep up with it and no one has time to get together. Hopefully, one day we will get to start up this family tradition again but it will never be the same because we will be missing my granddad, my Aunt K and our like family friends have all moved away so new friends will have to be invited. I don't like it when special things like this don't happen anymore for whatever reason. Sometimes growing up really stinks!

Happy July everyone!
